Inner North
The grammar-school belt — Clayfield, Ascot, Hamilton, Ashgrove
If you drew a circle around Brisbane's oldest private schools, most of it would sit north of the river between Ashgrove and Ascot. This is established Brisbane: character homes on big blocks, jacarandas, tennis courts behind hedges, and a bus network built around school drop-off.
Lifestyle
Leafy, quiet and settled. Racecourse Road and Portside handle the dining, Oxford Street Bulimba is a short drive across the Story Bridge, and the airport is fifteen minutes away — which matters if one parent still flies south for work.
Housing
Colonials and Queenslanders on 400–800sqm, with a strong renovation culture. Ascot and Hamilton are the premium end; Windsor, Wilston and parts of Ashgrove are the more attainable entry points into the same school catchments.
Getting around
Ten to twenty minutes to the CBD by train from Clayfield, Wilston or Windsor. Airport-bound traffic on Kingsford Smith Drive is the main morning pinch point.
Schools
Clayfield College, St Rita's, Padua, Mt Alvernia and St Margaret's are all local, with Nudgee College a short run north and both Grammar schools a straight train ride into Spring Hill.
