Relocating for work — how executive moves to Brisbane run smoothly
Start dates, temporary housing, school places and the sequencing that keeps a family move from unravelling.
The sequencing problem
A work start date rarely lines up with a school term, a lease end and a settlement. Something has to absorb the gap, and deciding in advance which one it will be is the whole job.
The usual answer is a short-term or temporary rental in the chosen corridor, which buys you time to secure the right school and the right house instead of the available ones.
What a relocation package should cover
Temporary accommodation, a rental search with inspections attended on your behalf, school introductions, utilities and services set-up, and an orientation of the corridor you have chosen. Ask what is included before you negotiate salary.
The order that works
Confirm work location, register at schools, choose a corridor, secure a short-term rental in it, then buy from inside the corridor once you know the streets.
